on small p. snail question?

okay I have a very dense amount of clams in my tank and I can't risk getting p. snails in my tank.
Well I am getting an order of clams through a whole saler(2 teardrops and 2 corceas and I am wondering if there is something I can do to prevent any problems, the reason I am conserned is that they are coming in with 40 other clams and I don't want to take a single chance that they have got some snails from another clams.

CAN I scrub the outside of the clam before putting it in my tank, obviously not the byssal gland. I know of many fish store in my area that do this to prevent getting snails in their clam tank. I know I can risk stressing and killing the new clams but it is worth it if I can prevent these snails from getting in my tank. I CAN NOT have these snails getting to my 12" derasa (to old to replace).

thanks

Sure, before putting the clams in your tank go over every square inch, maybe with a magnifying glass....check in and around all the scutes, cleaning with a brush, etc. You won't hurt the clam if you're scraping/brushing/cleaning the shell, just don't touch the flesh. Check very carefully around the byssal gland, just be nice to it :)

I don't think you will have any problems, and it's a smart idea to go over any new clam with a "fine tooth comb" so to speak! :)
