One hosting, add a clown?

I have a baby Ocellaris Clownfish hosting a green BTA for a few days now.

If I add a larger Clown to that tank for a mate, will they both host it ?

:love2:

The anemone is the one hosting, clowns the guests, but yes, you could potentially do that, IF you are certain the one you have is still very young and still a male.
We usually do it the other way around but some have done it this way too.

Bigger or smaller Clown?

Bigger or smaller Clown?

You are right the nem is hosting the baby clown (about 3 months old now).

I want to buy one about 2 times his size so they get along and add it to the tank for a mate. Will he let it in the BTA? with him? right now he is about 1.5 inches.

Or do you recommend I purchase one even smaller than him? and let him turn into the female? which is best?

Why does everyone say that the Clown is the host , that is so backwards!

i lost one of my clowns and when I got a second one they said to get a smaller one which I did. They have been together for a couple months-------the larger one spends a lot of time in the bubble tip anemone. I have never seen the smaller one in the anemone. I hope someday he will jump in.

Lol many say it backwards.
The most responsible advice I should give you would be to wait, and or QT the new clown, and that would give the existing a chance to girl up.
Adding a female now would be rushing a little, few things rushed in this hobby come out good overall.
Being human of course it's hard to say what I would REALLY do, but that is the responsible approach, so do as you wish.
If you had your clown 3 mo it is most likely at least 9mo old just FYI

qt clown

qt clown

When I got it was told it was about 2.5 months old . It's pretty small, that was a few weeks ago, now I figure it's 3 months ish now.

I had a pair before and they were about 9 months when I got them, they were twice this size, at least.
I got a Green BTA and it took to it right away, seems happy in it.
I want it to have a mate.
QT the new clown is a good idea. I never thought of that.
I have a small tank. Thanks for the suggestion.

You don't need to wait... But definitely go with smaller. Clowns can go from male to female but not back. Yours may already be a female and adding a larger one (dominant female by default) means you are going to have some major domestic abuse problems on your hands.

i will find a tiny one then
