One last go with a Regal

Love The Fish
The first one came from a LFS and was a yellow belly that never ate a thing and was really shy. This fish didn't last long at all. Fast forward to yesterday and my little grey belly from Fiji arrived from DD. This fish is in QT with an Aussie CB and Bicolor Foxface and has fit right in. I left her alone to settle in yesterday but tried some pellets first thing this morning and she gobbled them right up. Always wanted to keep one of these beautys and had to post my excitement. Ill attempt a video and some pics as she settles in a bit more.

Good luck. Excellent fish choices! The origin of fish isn't emphasized enough. Australian and Tahitian fish (and a few others) are the cream of the crop; IMO & IME. Off the subject, but the typhoon in the Philippines is bound to raise prices on many fish as buyers go to other (and better, IMO) sources. When you mysteriously lose a fish from The Philippines or Indonesia; it makes the somewhat higher prices of fish from other places worth it. Aussie Copperbands are spectacular and acclimate much easier....IMO & IME.

Thanks Steve. I can't agree enough about location but also have to give LADD credit where it's due. I love all the Aussie fish I've had over the years, the one in my Avatar was the coolest fish ever. Im sure some would still call me crazy for paying the big difference between an indo and Aussie copperband or a Divers Den Regal Vs. a half the price LFS Regal but Ill take the healthy one every time.

Glad to hear the fish is eating. My first one did not take to food either, however my second has been going strong for months. I stick to frozen foods though.

What was the size?

Little update. Since eating a few pellets on day two shes decided to turn up her nose to them. She is eating a little Larry's Reef Frenzy but not as much as I'd like. Its gonna be a process getting her to eat aggressively but Im up for it. Hopefully she'll be a little more dominant twords the other two once she settles more. What is everyones experience with them, do they get a little more bold as time goes by? Heres a few pics, sorry about the dirty glass, I dont keep the QT as spotless as the display. Enjoy!

and one of the Aussie CB

Both the Aussie CBB and the regal look beautiful. Like you saw in my thread for the multibars, they have turned their nose up to the clam. Still eating mysis and some Rod's, however, they are not eating as much as I would like them to. I think it will just take time before they will eat aggressively, which might be the case with regals as well.

That regal is stunning. I haven't had the guts to try one due to their reputation. I will also be following along to see ho it goes. Best of luck, I truly hope it works out!

Twice I've had regals go from actively eating pellets, to slowly completely stopping over time, eventually dying. GL, I hope yours comes around.

The Regal Angel...the absolute bane of my existence in this hobby. I have tried 4 over the last several years, both Indo and Indian Ocean. In the end, all of my efforts ended in one giant failure. That being said, I have a 3" Red Sea Regal waiting in a QT at a LFS that is eating and is active. So, much like the OP, this will likely be my last go around with this fish. Beautiful fish, but it seems like you roll the dice when it comes to getting one that is healthy and will eat long term.

Aquaph8- Good luck with your Regal, keep us updated on your efforts.

Thank you Sir, the regal is eating frozen really well today and has even got bold enough to take it out of others mouths. Ill take that as good sign. Im glad to hear your babies are still eating mysis well. Im envious of you cause mine never even took one bite of anything. Best of luck man, Im sure they will continue to get better and better each day.

thanks, I appreciate it. All I can tell you is if you try be selective of which one you purchase.

My three Regals eat PE Mysis, Mysis, Algae Sheets, and Spirulina Brine

Hey Alton, three would awesome. I havent tried any algae sheets yet but I will. The foxface in with her wont touch the stuff yet, figures Id get the foxface that doesnt want algae. Please post some pics of your three here, Id love to see them and here how you went about bringing them together.

Peter, these Angels are such a different experience for me. My wrasses usually eat right out of the bag. As long as she continues to eat the frozen Im happy burt pellets would be nice.

Brett...I got my Indo to start eating on clam on the half shell and although it eats everything, pellets, flakes etc.. it prefers all the larger foods items the other fish ignore so in the "chum" I make everyday there is always some Rod's predator blend mixed in...they are beauties good luck with yours...and yes the Purple Queen is still doing well taking full size mysis now.

Thanks for the tips Mike, glad to hear the PQ is doing well. I think Im gonna try a group of them as soon as my QT is empty.

Thinking to try a couple of tiny YB regals, and move my Indo Regal to my smaller system or grandson's tank... LFS says that this size has done well for a couple of their customers

Psst... If you get one, you should send one my way. :)

Honestly, I think all my luck with these babies comes from the three weeks that they spend at DD with the great people that care for them. I had a pleasant surprise this afternoon when the male angel was gobbling up flake food. My first fish besides a clownfish or damsel to take flakes, believe it or not.

I have had my regal for about 1yr and he eats pellets, rods frozen food and I usually go to local grocer and buy large scallops. I cut them into halts and freeze the rest. Just put a plastic tooth pick thru and rubberband to frag plug. My angel loves it !!!!!! Good luck with yours.
