One of my first shots with my new camera

I have wanted to get into photography for awhile, and been taking pics with a point and shoot, but decided if I wanted to get into it, and take some macros, I would get a decent SLR. Picked up a Nikon D40 yesterday and clicked a few pics. I really don't know much about cameras, but I am trying to learn. I liked the way this one turned out so I thought I would share it. Shot in RAW and PP with PE6. This is my first ever pic to post on the photography forum and after seeing all the great pics on here, makes me nervous to post it....ha

Great start. Shooting in RAW is the way to go. Don't be nervous about posting. Often the pics from which one can learn the most are the ones with which one has the most trouble.

A couple suggestions. It seems to me that you may hand holding the camera? If so, get a tripod. It will help dramatically and allow you to use shutterspeeds that you never could handholding. Slower shutterspeeds will also allow you to use higher fstops / smaller aperatures for greater depth of field. More of your subject will be in focus around the focal plane.
