A rant and a couple of questions.
Got home tonight and my skimmer was overflowing on my main tank. No biggie but I was wondering if anyone has ever had a carbon change cause this? That's the only thing I did last night and it's never happened before.
Then I realized I had a fish jump into the overflow. After 20 minutes with a net I gave up on rescuing him. Idiot.
Then i went downstairs to my frag setup. The Mag 3 I used for my return pump was dead silent. The Mag 3 I use for my skimmer was making all kinds of noise but not pumping water. Temp was down to 76 from 80, so the main couldn't have died too long ago. I take out both pumps and take them apart and they are covered in calcium deposits. Both pumps were clean when I put them in 2 months ago. What causes that? Low mag? On my main tank I go 6-8 months without cleaning my pumps and never have an issue.
While I'm messing with the pumps I check out the corals to see if anything was adversely affected and see a white spot. Pull it out and grab the magnifying glass and, of course, I see a single AEFW on my acro. Now in the last 2 months I've dropped about $700 for frags to get the frag tank started. About half of that was SPS. I've dipped everything before putting it in the tank and have a 4 line wrasse in there for further control. Should I pull everything out and redip? Oh and to add insult to injury, I have hair algae growing carpet-like on the bottom glass. I changed to GFO in the frag system as well yesterday so lets see if that helps.
Anyway, ranting done. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Did I mention I'm getting frustrated with this hobby?
