It is a Northern Stargazer. I kept 2 of them for about 3 years in the past - that was about 20 years ago. Just caught two of these little guys over the weekend. They were 4 inches.

The lit states that this species can give you an electric shock. I have never personally felt it.

Anyway, I thought I would share the ugly mug they have. Not quite the look on my mother-in-laws face, but as for yours - GOD BLESS.

its a stargazer as others have said.

I caught one of these probably 10 years ago on a fishing trip with my dad...except mine was the size of a basketball and looked even uglier LOL

Awesome little fish! I've never seen one so small! I caught one last summer that was around 2ft! They're also venomous!

I caught one off the beach in LBI, NJ & did get shocked by it. I never saw one before & had to get my hook out. It was more like a 2 hour long stinging sensation... Little bugger even vibrated & I had no clue what was gonna happen.
