so after a bunch of messing around , i finally have the holes drilled, canopy up, everything is ready to go except for shimming and leveling the stand. my floor is so uneven its not even funny. lets see if i can make it level lol heres a quick pic

More people are probably following along then you think. The problem is you already know what you are doing so ?? are limited...so fewer responses. Also there hasnt been a lot of progress posts to get responses either. I think you will see more people join in as you get closer to finishing and we see livestock.

Anyway looks great ...good luck with the rest.
 
I think a sailfin is going to get way too tall and big for that tank, unfortunately. What about a school of nice little cardinalfish, like threadfins? I always think they look great with SPS. Or a pair of captive-bred Banggais might hang out in front of one of your nems like they do in the wild (if the clowns don't drive them off). Or if you have your heart set on the anthias, maybe just stick with those. Either way, I look forward to following this build. :)
 
well the tank progress has dramatically halted due to an issue...


so the last thing i need to do before my new rimless tank is up and going is to level the tank and stand. Unfortunately i have leveled the tank FINALLY, and felt under neath the tank, where the tank sits on the stand and its not seated on the stand all the way around the tank! what should i do? im thinking about putting shims up between the tank and stand to fill the gap, at some points probably an 8th of an inch. what should i do?

I think i have a solution to this issue. Im going to replace the surface between the stand and tank with oak molding and liquid nails to fill the uneven points. this should remedy my issue and get me going finally!


so tonight i am buying 2 new reflectors. the lumen arc minis in hopes to get 2 halides to fill a 6ft tank. how high off the surface should these be? currently my radium setup is 10 " any thoughts? i was going to go with 10" again
 
Im thinking you will add a third in the long run. Tagging along, cant wait to see the results. Very nice tanks, old and new.
 
yea idk though because id rather have the ends dark than increase my electric bill that much more just to have another halide, i just dont see the advantage
 
I agree. Lumenarc's are great for light spread, and they spread that light in a square pattern. 2 large lumenarc III or large lumenmax w/ 400w bulbs would be good for a 6'x3' footprint, ie. 3ft/sq for each large square reflector. Lumenarc mini and the smaller lumenmax are good for 2ft/sq or on a 6'x2' tank I would recommend 3 x 250w. Since they are lighting a smaller footprint you can drop down to 250w.

In either case there is no way you are going to get 2 square reflectors to light a 3'x1.5' rectangle evenly. 3 reflectors in the best choice and still isnt perfect but will probably look the best.

Of course if you arent too concerned with how even the light is you can do what ever you want.

yea i guess ill have to wait and see how it looks, my biggest concern is electricity cost. If i do another but only 175watters, would that be decent to have on for 4 hours or so? it is a shallow system and so par wouldnt diminish too much


im wondering if i should have just kept my original reflectors!? they are big, but they are plant growing reflectors. but they were like 18 inches long and rectangular....but i think the lumenarcs will be better in the long run
 
so the tank SHOULD be decently leveled. Pascal(blurry) and i took down the tank, and laid a big bead of liquid nails down under the oak trim pieces and set the tank down on top of the trim with liquid nails. We filled it half full and will be letting it cure for a day or 2. we were worried about liquid nailing the tank to the stand so we put garbage bags under the tank to be removed when the tank is drained and cleaned for the official salt water filling tuesday.

gettin jittery, got the new sump stand built and NOT just thrown together like the last one. This one doesnt even wobble!. heres my plan as of now.

Work to 1130
go home and finish connecting the plumbing lines that were cut due to stand
stick heater in my 30 gallons of saltwater cooking
final leveling job
drink some beer:beer:
play xbox
get up 8 am
wash out all my new aragonite
Stop old 75 system
take water out of sump and place in new DT
Take 30 gallons of new mixed heated saltwater and place in new DT
have a beer:beer:
then.......yeaaaaa, the fun of transferring and ripping apart my old system

my plan since ive been having a lot of STN going on in my old tank, is to cut and frag a bunch of my colonies when i move them. I might just move everything as is, THEN frag tomorrow or something like that. I will be removing a majority of my caps including my massive skin colored orange cap that has since lost all of its color due to flow and alk issues in the old system. I will keep a wing of it to regrow.

If you need help with the beer let me know cause I can be to NY by the time the mountains turn blue. Bring on the fun.
 
always got some blue mountains in the fridge. looks good brandon. didn't jay have the same issue with the tank resting on the stand? did he do anything specific for it? like your plans for saturday? too bad I'll be hunting if not still sick and then work or I'd offer to help.
