Online vendors

That guy...
This is definitely the wrong forum to post this in but I'm stupid and can't find the right one. :D

I'm looking for highly recommended online vendors for fish. Would like to get a dwarf angel, a bristletooth tang, a reef safe wrasse, a starry blenny and perhaps a hamlet.

Anyone able to point me in the right direction?

Liveaquaria.com is great especially their divers den section. I have not used coralimports.Com but have heard good things from them and then there is piecesoftheocean.com which has some pretty conditioned fish as well. Hope this helps

I second Live Aquaria and Divers Den. Regular live aquaria stuff is straight from Quality Marine in California. The Divers Den facility is in Rheinlander. I'm actually from Green Bay. Lived there for over 20 years. There weren't any good shops in town when I lived there so I ordered all my stuff from LA and MarineDepot live (which I think is out of business). FVRC also toured the Divers Den facility when I was there. And they used to do yearly frag swap. Don't know if that's still in the works since Petco bought them out.

1) Divers Den 2) Live Aquaria. The divers den fish I got were extremely well fed and healthy when they left the bag and entered the QT. They also eat pretty much anything I put in the tank with gusto. The fish I got from Live Aquaria was healthy out of the bag but you can tell he was a little skinny from not getting the TLC that divers den fish get.

Both were packaged to perfection and came with a 14 day guarantee. Can't beat that. I think all of my fish will be coming from them in the future. Fish in better quality getting shipped to me than I can find in my LFS....cheaper too... My LFS wanted 300 dollars + tax for the fish I wanted and I got them for 150 on DD. Add a clam and another fish to the order and you got free shipping! Very easy to spend 225 on DD/Live aquaria...

Like mentioned above LA/DD is most peoples go to because of the refund part of the guarantee. Since petco bought them who knows how long they will keep up the great service and products. There are several other places online that offer fish. Saltyaquaria.com, NYAquatics.com, Saltwaterfish.com and CoralImports.com all offer the same guarantee as LA/DD but you get a store credit rather than a refund.

Anybody except ReefsTWOGo. Stay away from them. Go visit the Vendor Experience thread and get plenty of info on who to deal with. DD is probably the best.

I've only bought online from DD/LA. Fish were great. I have friends who have ordered many fish from saltwaterfish.com and had good results.

Foxy saltwater tropicals for Caribbean fish. Hands down best quality, pricing is great too.

LA is drop shipped from quality marine. Same stuff You by at your pet store, except with
A 14 day gaurantee slapped on it.

Cross off nyaquatics from that list. Any one from New York for that matter.

Anyone use Vivid? I've heard some good things about them and they have everything that I'm looking for. Guess I'll have to check DD for all that's on my list.

Bluezoo also has what I'm looking for so any reports would be great.

Not trying to hijack just to get input from two more supposed good online vendors.

Not sure where you are from but many areas of the country have terrible LFS. Most of the LFS in my areas holding tanks are virtual cesspools so if you can snatch them up before they get there you are already ahead of the game.

You are also paying a 50% + markup on fish at many of these local places compared to online vendors so it makes it hard to support them when the fish aren't even properly cared for.

I placed my first order with coralimports.com ( a RC sponsor) and was very happy with the personal attention. Felt like a LFS, the owner is great. DD as always though I have not made a purchase sine acquired from Petco. NYAquatics has nice stuff as well and easy to deal with. I rec all three.

I never said lfs (majority of them ) have good fish. They pretty much get them from the same places (quality, reef dwelling, seagrest) it's what happens when they get there is what determines health most of the time. (Improper acclimation, poor water quality/filtration, overcrowding etc)

Not sure about where you go, but both lfs in my area (central New Jersey) are priced the SAME as la, and cheaPer then blue zoo.

Just have to find that one good one and let him know what is acceptable or else you buy elsewhere ( give them something to lose)

Why do you say that? Michael gets in all the rare stuff... Literally every week and prices are better than LA/DD

I live about 12 miles from the city. I knew many people who have gone there, and I knew enough after speaking with them not to go there.

But then again, when someone is behind a keyboard, (online) they can appear different than in person. In other words, he's better to deal with thru
Email and phone than in person.

If it has worked
For you guys; then hey that differs from what ive seen.

Theres only one decent LFS within 100 miles of me and their pricing is a joke. Last time I went in there Barletts were 100 dollars each when you can buy them pretty much anywhere for 50 bucks...

I know what NYAquatics is in person, but I don't care and most others don't either. Do you want rare fish that you don't pay through the nose for? Maybe your idea of a "good" LFS is a place that has a nice flashy sign with nice paint on the walls and nothing but reef tanks setup in the store... When in all reality what Michael is doing/running is what you get with most fish stores in general. Run down looking place with tanks and water all over the floor... Won't stop me or the hoards of others ordering from him. Ted has got fish from him a few different times and he has more money in fish in his tanks than most peoples homes cost. If its good enough for him its plenty good for me. Its nice to be able to get fish from someone that don't come from QM

Also LFS around me are a total joke and I wouldn't let them give me a fish let alone buy one from them. I will use CoralImports (Peter) in the future

bluezoo is quite good, but they only have a 7 day guarantee and you have to take a photo of the deceased animal to receive credit.
