onyx pairing

After a second attempt, i finally was sucessful in getting my two favorite onyx to pair up :) its only day one but so far so good. The first attempted resulted in the bigger one attacking, so i seperated them. after letting the smaller onyx get use to the tank for a couple months i tried again today and this time the larger onyx was completely not aggressive and the smaller one showed signs of submission. one is wc from the soloman islands and the other is a captively bred clown from rbeuler.

so im more hopeful this pairing will work out.

yes you are correct ez.

yeah i agree, diversity is always prefered., but i think most pairs in captivity are with siblings.

Unfortunately, My digital took a dump and I've sent it back for replacement. I'll get it back within ten days and post it. :(

Two weeks ago, I added a pair of Picasso's from ORA and WW3 started. It seems that everyone is now calm, but I had to add another host. :)

Hope you have great success with your pair!

fiber, are you happy with your picassos? i bought several but i was not happy with there body deveopment. even though they ate alot, they never seemed to dev. the body ive seen in other percs.

So far, they are doing great. I like the variety and my grandson (2.5 yrs) loves them. I've kept lots of clowns in the past and we have several varieties at my kids school.

I did notice that the Picasso's like higher light and flow than other types we have kept. Of course, this is my first run with them, so I have little experience.

A good local friend has some and they've adapted well into his reef and have been adopted by his larger tomato.

excellant fiberlux. thanks for info. maybe i will try them again than.

i bought one of very first batches and they cam in very very skinny. hows the pattern on your pair? does the second bar extend back to the third?

Man, I wish the camera was here, so I could send you the pics. :mad2:

I wish I didn't give away the old one, but who knows that your grandson is gonna play football with it!

First, mine are definitely not skinny. Each is a little unique, even from each other. One has the bar almost on the third and the other looks like both of the bars almost come together.

My buddy got six of them and let me pick mine first, but all of them looked good. I probably should have chosen two alike, but I liked them a little different from each other.

I would definitely go for it again!

you should document there progross when you get your camera back. since these clowns are so new in the hobby.

FiberLux

Where did you get your piccaso's from, or should I say where did your firend get them? None of the store up here have them or seem willing to get them in. I come down to the Chicago area often and could stop by the store thats seeling them.

Thanks in advance.
Dave

Dave,

So, you want to be part of this new clown crze, do you? :D

Actually, my LFS got them direct from ORA. I'm not sure whether you can get anything from them directly or not. Here's the site:

http://www.orafarm.com/

After my friend got them, another local reefer started a thread to say that he was planning to buy some from ORA.

Hope you are able to get some! Enjoy! :)

You need to have a retail/ wholesale liscense to purchase from ORA so just ask your local LFS to get you a pair. Remember though...they are not going to look like the father on ORA's site or the jigsaw that embryoguy has. Check out his gallery for pics of their picasso's.

Be forwarned...if your LFS's are anything like the ones around me they go NUTS on jacking up prices...they quoted me prices around snowflake prices :eek1:

RareAngels,

You can PM me for my local contact. I'm sure he would be able to help you without gouging you on the price. :)

Just remember that there will be variations in the Picasso's as with any other.

just be persistent and get your lfs to order them. i know petco has an ora contact also.

i did not pay as much compared to my onyx clowns though.

good luck.

even though picassos are very new in the hobby, based on there parents , i hope they become onyx as they get older. time will tell.
