This is my WC true perc, it is only 6-8 months old and still small but starting to fill in black on all of its fins. It even has a black ring in one eye.

note the black filling in on his tail and dorsal. he even has a darkening eye.

its only 6-8months old. the reason I ask is most Onyx develope thier color slowly.

this video is of my WC with an SA Onyx. note the SA is larger and infact older, yet has almost no black developed yet. I realize the SA is a verry slow developer but still.

They all color at different rates, but my onyx had black dorsals when i got them, and they were only .5" You never know though. Still, nice fish.

the dorsal should fill in eventually...it's dumb how the dorsal can determine if it's onyx or not...you can have a fully colored black clown but because the dorsal remains orange (hasn't filled in yet) it's not considered onyx...compared to a completely orange clown with black dorsal and it's considered onyx...i just find that dumb...it's like saying your clown isn't orange enough so it's not a true perc or fals perc...it's a clarkii but wait, it's not yellow enough either so we'll just classify it with a different name.

but your's looks like it's on it's way to the "onyx" classification...

Your clown is 100% onyx right now as it is and a very nice looking one at that. Congrats.

The dorsal does not determin if its onyx or not, there is a tiny percent of people that will say otherwise but majority dont.
