Hater of Hair Algae
Today I bought a package of frozen mysis shrimp to spice things up for my fish. I forgot to rinse it before I fed it and I'm worried that I may have added nutrients or pollutants to my tank.

No it wasn't cubes, it's just a bunch of mysis compacted and frozen together, and I always thaw first.

Almost all fish food makers add phosphate as a perservitive and you cant rinse flake. You should add a wide varity of food for best health and feed more often smaller amounts.A well groomed tank will be able to absorbe any small amount the food may add.

I've been feeding several kinds of frozen feeds to my tank every day since I started it. I rinsed a few times, but it was too much hassle for not enough consequence. My hair algae is gone now, and I am actually feeding 2-3 cubes per day instead of the one cube before (more fish).

If you have macro algae and a skimmer (and keep it clean) then you have nothing to worry about. Your fish turn it into algae fertilizer anyway.

You don't need to rinse your frozen foods, simply let it defrost on a plate and just pour off the liquid as this will reduce the phosphates levels significantly enough not to present a problem. Actually this type of decanting is a preferred method.

I also agree with the response above and if you're running a phosphate reactor you'll almost never have a problem.

I would not worry about it to much, unless you do it every day, then I think that would be trouble.
