OPE or RPE?

I got these from a LFS and they were selling them as RPE's. All the RPE's I have seen are deeper red. They look like OPE's but they are not orangish at all.

Looks like the RPE I got. How much did the LFS get you for them? Mine where $10 per poylp, but the owner didn't feel like counting to 13, only 7, So I guess I should say they where $5 a pop.

I got them for $60 and it was 15 polyps, but a lost 2. I was able to make a frag with one of the lost polyps. I hope it takes.

They could be little faded if they had been under metal halides.
I've noticed people writing that their lfs have been getting in these RPEs lately.

That could explain it becuase they are under a 400w se on a HQI ballast. Also they are only in 20" of water.

look at my wicked OPE's!!!!

ehhhhhhhhhhhhh...wrong!

these are RPE's faded out under 10k lighting.

and yours are RPE's without a doubt in my mind.

whoever *made up* the whole OPE thing recently, is obviously fooling themselves.

i'm sure it was an attempt at fading out some RPE's as much as possible under 10k or 6,500k lighting, so they can profit off the popularity of Orange Enveys.

until i see a side-by-side pic, of an OPE beside and RPE, in the same tank, under the same lighting, i'm convinced there is no such thing.

I set up a trade for a OPE polyp for one of my RPE polyps. I will set them next to each other and post a pic. The trade will be Tuesday.

with who? if you dont mind me asking...

do you have any bam bam orange zoas in your tank? those are a true orange zoa. if the OPE's are not orange like a bam bam, then they are not OPE's.

also, it may take a month or two to be able to make a fina comparison of OPE/RPE as they adjust to new light...

with that said.....i'm always skeptical of people who work at a LFS. they say anything to make a sale.

I am know him well enough to trust him. He gives me great deals all the time and always lets me know when they get something in at a great price. I have seen the polyps and they look very similar to my RPE's but they are more orange in them. They also have the purple oral disc.

well, as i was saying earlier. theres no such thing as an OPE. the OPE's posted on ZoaID are in fact RPE's.

if there was such thing as an OPE. it would have to be a true orange, like an orange envy, or a bam bam orange zoa.

as you can see from this link, here is why you should be very skeptical of anyone saying they have OPE's or Orange Enveys.

IMO, all people want to do is say they have the next hotest thing on the market, and be able to profit off of it (by $$ or trades), esspecially since there is only 1 guy who has a colony of Orange Enveys, and he's selling them for $500/polyp now. thus, you can see why anyone would be very skeptical of anyone offering up an OPE or OE.

since its very hard to find a "fake" orange envey, since there are no streaks in the polyp. the next easiest way would be to put RPE's under very bright white/yellow light (6,500k or 10k) until they fade enough where you could call them orange. or make them look orange from some other lighting.

We boht started calling them OPE's after we looked them up on zoaid. He was not trying to make a profit just a trade for a little diffrent color.

Thanks for the info. I will make sure to let people know as I trade with them that they are both RPE's.

I always tell people the colors of the zoo's because so many people are always trying to pass zoo's of as something they are not.
