Open Brain Baby?

I bought an open brain a few weeks back and its thriving in my tank.

My question is, The last couple days I've noticed what looks like a another full open brain baby(if you will) protruding from the base. Could this be a baby?



Not a great picture, but you can clearly see something is there. My only other explanation is a stray polyp from one of my many zoa/paly's.

Yes it could be, but without a better pic we are just guessing.

It's definitely interesting. I don't think they reproduce that way but it's possible there was once damage there and a piece budded off due to the damage. Give it some time and see if it resembles the larger piece.

And from my reading it seems like they do reproduce this way, or I'm misunderstanding what I'm reading?

Breeding: The open brain coral will engage in asexual reproduction in the aquarium. When it buds the daughter colonies usually develop around the base of the corallite. The buds can be broken off the mother colony. The open brain coral has separate sexes (that is, it is not a hermaphrodite).
