open brain coral from japan

Over collected is what I've been told by many exporter stations. CITES is also dropping quotas on many LPS< which in return will drive up their price. The EU has banned the import of a few LPS all ready, I wouldn't put it past the US to follow suit. The fact that many new exporters have popped up in the last few years also lowers how much quotas each exporter gets, thus making them less available in larger quantities from a single source. If an exporter can only ship so many, and importers scramble for them, the exporter simply jumps the price up to take advantage of the situation.

Any owrd on how it faired after MACNA?
Ditto.

I think many of them were newly imported, new into the tank [which was set up just for the show] ... and we have little long-term success data. [or so they were at IMAC as I was told ... where they did the same demo]

Not to say it's not possible to frag [it is] ... but IME given how slow these can grow, any frags are going to be very very high $$. [or else teeny]

I've shopped my branching bubble frags around locally ... and figuring 7 years in-tank led to about 8-10 heads [decent sized] - I didn't get the price I wanted for all the time, Ca/Alk, and love invested.
[and no, I am NOT shipping them or looking to sell anymore]
Traded a few smaller ones to spread the genetics, share the joy ... but there is zero profit in it. [$100 a frag would still be barely over $1/month of the time it took to go from 1 to many - not exactly profitable]

This is one of my favorites in my collection. It really looks like it has a light inside of it. Glows like crazy!

Thats amazing looking caddisfly!

I have tried to keep 2 brains in my 12g nano. I have other LPS that are thriving in there (aquapod stock pc lighting) but the brains just didn't make it. Wonder if they'd do better under my 55g's t5 lighting??

I would probably pay to have a nice brain like that if i knew for sure it'd keep well

That one is kept under 14K 175 watt metal halides with 4 super actinic VHO's. It also sits in a low flow area. I try to feed it at least 3 times a week, using cyclopeeze, formula one pellets and brine shrimp. I've had it in and out of different tanks for about 3 years now.
