open brain in trouble

Thank you all.

It seems that it is dying, because it has completly whited out even is bare know in 2 areas but the other areas still look as when it was healthy. So I don't know if it is normal that half could stay alive while the other half dies.

I will post some pics later today.

I never see the tentacles on mine.

I've never seen the feeder tentacles on mine either. I've had it for 3 months, it seems very healthy, has grown and poops.

This is why I prefer closed brains over these.

here are some pics of the brain That I believe is dying.

Why is it white like that, too much light?

white is the skeloton, it's dying.... :(

I got one that I'm nursing for 1 1/2 month...it look like that but now it's slowly coming back.. slowly... I feed cyclofreeze, DT's and mysis... I place it higher in the tank and it has more flow...
good luck with yours

what did you do when it started to die? that you were able to stop it and bring it back.

I replaced it higher, make sure that no sand get on it (watch ou if you have fish that spred sands around!)... make sure my water parameters where ok...
it is still not back to normal, I still see the skeleton but it stop shrinking... and it never stop eating... usually it opens to eat at night... well mine does..

it looks like it was not getting enough flow or maybe a bacterial or protozoan infection.you can cut the heahthy part off the bleached portion, and put the healthy part up a little off the sand and provide good water movement around it.they are bullet proof corals and i have seen them recover from necrosis many times when you thought it was dead.i would suspect water quality as the cause.i would check all parameters.

Here's what mine looks like today:

It was MUCH smaller 2 months ago.. but it's slowly coming back... ;) realy slowly...

Thank you. I did what you did and picked it up off the sand and put it where it will get better flow, I also stopped my supplements I am going to do a water change today. it appears to still be alive so I hope the change does it good. I will keep it all posted.

Thank you all again for your posts.

I havn't directly fed it but I feed the tank with Dt's phytoplankton and cyclopeeze about 3 times a week, is that enough? if not how do I feed it directly?

man i would feed it directly, turn off the pumps and put a piece of food like mysis, a piece of small shrimp from the grocery store or even pellet fish food. if its got any life in it at all it will show tentacles and eat it up. they really need to be feed at least twice a week from what i hear via wetwebmedia.

IMO you should not directly feed it until it shows some better health.once it starts inflating and looking like its on the road to recovery than you can try a little piece of shrimp or a mysis.feeding it now may degrade water quality and possibly add to the necrosis.

thank you.

the deterioration a has slowed almost to a halt, since lifting it up off the the sandbed. I tried to feed it last night and it didn't eat it before the cleaner shrimp did, I put some more and kept the shrimp away and it still didn't eat it. so I will wait.

Do you still suggest cutting off the dead part?

Are you sure I can put food pellets directly on my brain, do I need to put the food by the center mouth.
