Open water column fish

I have a blue Springer Damsel that is always out. Beautiful solid blue color and doesn't bother anybody.

I got one of these for the very purpose of adding movement through my tank, and I love him. Beautiful color, outgoing, swims out in the open, not aggressive. Granted, he was the last addition to a tank ruled by a female ocellaris clown (who has a mate). I also have an orchid dottyback, a yellow watchman goby and a lawnmower blenny.

You can actually built a high quality screen by using a custom made frame and a fishnet from a fishing/hunting store. Built the frame according to your dimensions (you can probably even make the frame out of acrylic) than stretch the fishing net over it and either staple it or glue it and cut the extra net.

Just make sure not to use gillnets, fish can get stuck in those.

Every try to "staple" into acrylic? :) Why would anyone use fishnet when you can get a good, tried and tested product from BRS? They even had a video testing the light through the mesh and it was negligible.

You can staple it to wood. I didn't say it can only be acrylic and if you want to use acrylic you can glue it. OP said his light fixtures are very close to the tank so the BRS lids might not fit, so I suggested to do something custom.

BRS kits are for custom fits. You cut them to size. I suspect you can do the same thing with a window screening package from Lowe's but the window screen is inferior to the BRS mesh.

Here is my set up now... I have the hood on backwards for easy access for the fish and maintenance..
I am in the process of making a little door for the front to completely close it off..

And yes.. those are Christmas lights lol

Lol I love the Christmas lights! And the hood is really cool too but with my lights they won't fit in a hood like that
:( I need new lights too but with the holidays I really don't have the money now. I guess I'll focus on my corals for now and sell enough to get new lights.

I paid $15 for the screen frame kit at Home Depot and cut to size. The clear acrylic 1/4" netting was $12 from Amazon (6ft). The screen frames sit flush with the top of the tank fitting into the side existing slots. You don't have to put a lot of money into this!

I got lucky.. found these leds used for 100 bucks... they are 165 watt black boxes... but 3 of them for 100...I got lucky

I'll snap a pic of the 55s hood... it's pretty tall.. it fits 2 250 watt mh and 2 48 inch actinic PC lights under it... and still has a ton of room

I love all the rock work!!

I want the same in my tank.. but decided to split my 250 lbs of rock between the 90 DT and 46 fuge...

I had it all in my 150..and it looked amazing until it blew out the bottom seal and left me with one heck of a flood

This is the 55 and hood.. it will fit that huge light fixture and still give ya like 10 inches of working room

The PC and mh lights are attached to a peice of wood that is cut to fit as the top...

Or.. if I run differant lights.. the hood has a top for that too (the tops that are on the hood in the picture
