Open water column fish

I love my dwarf angel, he's the most active fish in my tank.

So far he's been a real trooper, but they are definitely considered reef safe with caution and have been known to nip at corals.

Im in the "get some kind of cover" camp. There are lots of varieties these days, take a look at them all before refusing to consider it.

same boat here with the tops. Might look better without one, but why risk a jumper?

Artfully acrylic tops look great, but are pricy. I went with a BRS mesh kit for my 90. Pretty easy to put together, though because of things like the light stands attached to the rim of the tank, auto feeder, and sea swirl return line I had to cut parts out of the top to make it fit. Initially its been good, though I'm starting to see the seams come apart on the back end. Don't get me wrong, its a great kit and easy to put together, I think its just how I put it together. The kit gives you a lot of extra netting.

That's another problem that I am thinking. I have an older t5 8 bulb fixture and it sits on the rim of the tank and pretty close to the water so I would need something that comes in maybe 3 sections or has a small hatch that I can lift up when feeding

Aside from the great looks the Artfully Acrlic lid can be customized to fit and they also provide feeding doors. I made mine out of strips of acrylic and put a channel in for the spline to hold the screen. It would have been better to make it from one sheet of polycarbonate but I did not have a router or a laser cutting machine. So far it has held up and you can hardly notice it when looking at the tank. I probably spent a little under $100 vs $250 from AA.

IMO...fish jump for two reasons (except in nature)
They are natural jumps likely quick and fast, or they are being chased and want to escape.

Ever thought about a hood?
My tank came with one.. and it basically saves me the problem of any fish on the floor.. if they jump.. they brunch off the wood.. and plop back in the water...

And my leds fit nicely under it

Yeah that was my first thought but I have a very docile tank. Nothing aggressive. The most aggressive fish I've ever had was a Bangaii and he was definitely king of the tank but never caused my fish to jump. It's just the wrasses that have consistently jumped for me.

Here is my set up now... I have the hood on backwards for easy access for the fish and maintenance..
I am in the process of making a little door for the front to completely close it off..

And yes.. those are Christmas lights lol

My hillbilly moon lights :-)

You can actually built a high quality screen by using a custom made frame and a fishnet from a fishing/hunting store. Built the frame according to your dimensions (you can probably even make the frame out of acrylic) than stretch the fishing net over it and either staple it or glue it and cut the extra net.

Just make sure not to use gillnets, fish can get stuck in those.
