Open Water Dive Certification?

Always Learning
I might need to get certified for a job coming up in the next couple of weeks. Where did you guys get certified, and what did it cost you? Anyone certify here?

I'm certified.

We use to try to get group discount for classes but never got enough people. Try groupon

From what I've researched recently, its about $300 + equipment. Just look on the padi website to see which shop is closest to you.

My advice is to find a reputable instructor and make the best of it. Don't cut corners,(not saying that's what you want to do) lots of places will offer you a quick out, don't trust those places, it is your life that you are gonna be outtign at risk. Attention to detail is the key when trying to find a good place for an instructor. Best of luck.

Thanks, I want to make sure I get high quality instructors, considering I only have to learn this once!

I took a refresher course from Diver's Cove in Davie. Very professional and reasonable price. Was a few years ago, though. But it's somewhat near you.

Thanks, I will look into that.

I know a great instructor. You will have to call her to find out her prices, but I believe she is reasonable. I was already certified by the time I met her. She teaches the boy scouts and others. Has been diving for probably 30 years and has been diving all over the world. Very into it and will not let you slide with anything. Her name is Robin Burr. If you want to get in touch with her let me know. I really think she won't have the time in the next couple of weeks because she is the one who puts on Miami Rum Festival which in a few weeks. I really can't say for sure about her schedule.

Also... I have to add, u gotta do PADI

It's a little more money, but it's the global standard/leader and their cert will get you a fill just about anywhere in the world.

The other certifications don't hold up at reputable shops or in many international locations.

I've got certs with both PADI and NAUI, as well as comparing notes with instructors I know with SDI. The instructor is far more important than the agency, so long as you are going with one of the well recognized agencies such as PADI, NAUI, or SDI.

Did you get certified for NAUI and PADI from the same instructor? The one I used gave us both cards.

Ahh, but all my certs are for different classes...aka Open Water, Nitrox, Rescue, etc. different instructors and different agencies based on the who the instructor happened to be with at the time. Decisions on which to go with were about instructors, the material is all the same, some agencies insist on higher standards to pass than others...but most are still fairly close when comparing minimum standards to pass any given cert. Despite the folks the jump on the bandwagon of any given agency.
