I would like to know what do you think about using crushed coral as a substrate for a fish or reef tank
thanks for any advice

I've seen crushed coral used in reef tanks successfully, but its usually not recommended -- tends to produce nitrates. Should be good for a fish only tank though; fish are not very sensitive to nitrates.

When I started my tanks I had a 8 inch CC bed. After several years I could no longer control the hair algae. I found out that the open spaces between each particle fills with detritus. Finally bit the bullet and took it all out with a shop vac. It was filthy!. I replaced it with 2 - 3 inches of Southdown and am very happy with it.

changed from crushed coral to fiji pink sand, and it was the best thing I ever did, crushed coral not only looks like crap, it works like it as well.

GO WITH SAND!!!
