Opinion Needed - FX5 in conjunction with sump

I just ordered a Fluval Fx5 to be used in conjunction with my 75g sump on my 380. My intent is for water-polishing as well as to run carbon, phosban, polish pads, whatever else. I can't find a whole lot about the use of these, except that they are suppose to be the best canister filter you can buy. They are rated up to 400g. I am wondering if there is any downsides to using this thing, it sounds awesome from the reviews.

I will still be using my sump as usual, just supplementing with the FX5. Whatta ya'll think about using the canister. Not a lot of people use canisters on saltwater tanks because of nitrates. BTW, it is FOWLR.

Also, a question for Ron or Jim, whomever is familiar with setting these things up. I know you guys are because you sell them. How long are the hoses on these things? I would have to run the hose about 6' up and then over into the tank someway. I was just wondering if I need to order extra hoses for my setup.

I run a canister (a small Ehiem) with just carbon. I change it out pretty frequently. For the most part, I consider it just a closed loop with some benefits.

I don't remember the length on the hose but it says something on the box about a maximum and minimum length from what I recall.

I have not used a Fluval so I can't give an opinion on it. I have used a Rena and absolutely hated it! It was supposed to be self priming. I wanted the multi media ability. It was a bear to get it primed, and once electric went off it lost siphon. Which it shouldn't had since line had not been opened. It also didn't perform well with my sandbed, kept it "milky". I have used a Magnum canister on my fresh water tanks for years and love it. Easy maintance, can see when need to change media, accepts different media, micron sleeve to polish water, container holds large amount of media, easy quick disconnect-change media-start up easy with out siphon break.

You said the reviews were good. Have you talked to anyone with personal experience? I hope it works well for you. Please keep me updated on how it performs!

I have Ehiem and Rena XP1 both on saltwater tanks and a rena XP1 on freshwater and haven't had a problem with them. But then again I'm running these on tanks that are only 1/4 the size they are rated for so......
