Opinions - Chyrsopterus Pair Going In Rack System?

Hi All,

A freind of mine set me up with a nice very healthy pair of white-tailed chrysopterus clowns today that he has had for 3-4 months, the female being a large mature girl was kicking substrate all over his corals so he no longer wanted her in his reef system. Anyhow I brought them home today and acclimated them to a mature 29 gallon system I had here with LR and LS....use it to hold new pairs of clowns I get in so I can observe them.

My question is I know this species of clown is very sensitive to brook and ships poorly. How long do you think I should keep them seperate (assuming no issues) before I add them into my breeding system that currently holds 9 other pairs of clowns. Is it possible for WC clowns to be brook carriers without showing any signs/symptoms? Also how do these clowns typically do in a rack/breeding setup. Only people I currently know who have success with them keep them in full reef setups.

Any advice/suggestions would be great, the breeding system does have a 20 watt UV sterilizer on it as well.

Keep them out of a rack system for at least 6 weeks.

Will they breed in a rack system??? Well, tell us what you find out. They may be more difficult since there aren't more on the open market.

They need a lot of room, a 55G minimum. Mine spawned in a 90G, and I still feel that tank was too small for them.

Thank you for the opinions. Good news and bad (mostly all good news). The pair is doing awesome in their 29 gallon QT tank, eating everything and anything. Also my finacee has fallen in love with them and they are now going to go into our 220 gallon SPS reef tank, to replace the current clown inhabitants (adult pink skunk pair). The bad news (if it is bad news) is since they will be in this tank, I will not be able to focus as much on breeding them since they will not get power fed like the clowns in the breeding system. Still will get fed well just not the 3-4 times like the others.

Will keep you guys updated on them.

They will be fine, chasing pods and stuff. Give them some nori on a clip daily.
