opinions needed for angel fish keepers

hello all,
so 2 weeks ago I grabbed a dwarf angel.

took it home, 3 days of QT he was fine, so I moved him to the main tank, inside a breeder box.

he started eating pellets, mysis and brine.

fed him for about 3 days, and then released him last week.

ever since I have released him, he doesnt show ANY interest for food ... all he eats is my SPS polyps, I have a moorish Idol and an emperor angel in there too, and this guy just puts them to shame ... with regards to eating corals.

so now, I am kind of worried about his health ! will he ever come back to pellets ? or will he want to eat all my SPS first ?

should I catch him and train him again ? or is there hope for him to give up SPS eating and come around eating food ?

I really don't mean any snark, but would you eat dry cereal for dinner if you had access to steak? I doubt very much that this fish will stop eating corals. Unlike a fish that has never been trained to eat prepared food, yours clearly knows that the pellets and frozen food you're offering is food. It clearly just prefers coral polyps.

I guess the decision is whether you are willing to take some damage to corals in the hopes that this fish will eventually go back to taking prepared foods in addition to the polyps. If you're willing to be patient, you may get to the point that you can feed often and hope that the nipping will no do much damage. I doubt it will stop completely. What kind of dwarf is it?

well I also have an emperor angel, and a moorish Idol, I do not mind them eating my corals. that's nature at its best.

my concern is, would he be fine with diet of SPS polyps :) lol

but I guess ure right, he knows mysis = food, so he should come around when/if sps polyps arent enough nutrition for him ...

my SPS just show less PE during the day, they have plenty at night. I feed them at night.

its a hybrid ...

Very pretty fish. Sorry I misunderstood your question.

If you're not concerned about your corals, I think you should be ok. Just watch to make sure he's not losing body mass. I bet he will eventually start eating prepared foods again at least as a supplement to his preferred diet.

thank you :)

and no you had a great point, Im gonna stop using garlic to entice him ... he knows, he would come when he wants.

QT is normally 4 weeks and maybe more. The idea I use is to get them in a tank where they can not graze, get lazy only eating from your hand or algae sheets. It doesn't always work but it helps.
