I am going to get started in the hobby with an 11+ gallon acrylic tank. I know a lot of people suggest glass because it doesn't scratch as easily, but this is what I have.
The current tank is in the first picture and my modifications are in the second. The lid is a bit weird, because I am getting this tank as a leftover in a project going on at my workplace.
Anyway, I'm planning to modify the back of the tank by adding three 4" deep/13" high compartments. The second picture shows my modification plans. The overflow will be on the left (A). The middle for some live rock rubble and/or chaeto (B). And, the right side for a return pump (C).
I'm also considering potentially adding other treatment material (i.e. carbon, a skimmer, etc.) in the future. Where would you all suggest these various things go? Particularly a skimmer.
Would the skimmer be best in compartment (B) or would it work in (A)? Should I move the liverock/chaeto to a different compartment?
Thanks for your thoughts.
