Opinions on Oceanproaquatics Live Sand

I don't like that place. Sorry. Buy DRY and seed it yourself.
Better way to go. It doesn't take long to do.

imo, store sold livesand isnt really livesand. they pretty much start with dumping dry sand in their system and then sold as live. you're out of luck if u happen to walk in a few hours after they just dumped in the dry sand. you're buying expensive and heavier "dead" sand.

buy dry and just seed with good healthy live sand from ur buddies.

NO - I agree with phatphisher - BUY DRY
Then Seed. - Just be sure to RINSE-WELL first.
If you just add LR, it will seed it self in a few weeks BETTER.
Your going to use LR right??????
Just my opinion.

Which live sand?

They have all types of caribsea arag-alive; this is aragonite sand with bacteria added but no critters.

The other live sand is brought in by walt smith in 55 gallon drums from Fiji. It is really expensive because of this trip, like 2X what the caribsea costs. In theory it should have critters in it if it is fresh enough, personally I'd prefer to get a few cups of sand from locals and seed my bed with known critters.

The dry sand is okay; I've used both the dry caribsea & the arag-alive. The dry stuff tends to get bubbles in the bed which look ugly and don't seem to go away (like from organic materials in the sand decomposing).

The aragalive is nice because it is more cohesive and doesn't have the bubble issues as bad. You can gets some dry and some arag-alive and mix the two in advance. This works well also. If you need a lot I'd recommend this route =)

I'm just trying to add about 20 lbs. to an already established DSB.
My main concern is the critter population.

Hey Clint... I'm in the same boat.. except I'm adding about 200lb. sand. I'm just going to get dry and seed w/ my existing 60g. If you need some sand to seed your tank, just let me know. Not 100% about attenting next IEMAS meeting. I will be in Murrieta on Saturday.

I was suckered into buying 75 lbs of their live sand. Once I got it home I was confident it was just sand from a local beach. And it wasn't even white. There was nothing alive about it. And if it was from their systems, then maybe it had some bacteria in it, but that's it.

I really doubt it's local sand since local sand isn't even aragonite. The fiji I remembered being off-white/tan but that's the correct color for fiji sand, if you want white get some southdown or caribsea (carribean sands).

I agree with nicole- depending on how long it was in transit and how long it's been in their tubs I doubt there's a pod alive at the end. If you want pods get a scoop of fuge sand and start feeding your tank phyto =)

Sounds like i'll just drop in some suger sized argonite and call it a day.
I'll take you up on the offer Charles. That way you can check out that Tang. PM me later for directions if you want to stop by.

I know i just bought 100 lbs of Caribsea's Indo Pacific black sand and the only thing live about it was the price :/ i could have just mixed 2 sand colors together for the same look @ a fraction of the price.... hey Charles if you have any more "LIVE SAND" i wouldnt mind buying a few cups off you that is if you have any more to spair ;)
