Opinions on this detached clam.

I got this clam a few weeks ago. It is a crocea and the rock it was attached to was almost inside the clam. The clam had disolved the rock around the foot opening.

This was causing me a little bit of trouble keeping the clam upright ans such. The clam was in the sand, kind of propped up against my Derasa.

Well, over time, I noticed the rock was becoming detached from the clam.

Here is the pic of what was left on the rock. Is this normal for the clam to leave this much "tissue" behind?

Clam looks just fine.

Trouble with the website again. I will post the full pic later.

Here is the larger pic.

I've had this happen to one of my corceas once, it grew back with in a couple months and is fine.

That's good to hear. I figured since it detached itself, it would be fine. But the mass it left behind was just so large.

Mine left a real large mass behind too. I left it in there, the hermit crabs took care of it.

Jeez, that's a lot of tissue!...Did you place the clam on a different rock...Has it started attaching to that?

Glad to hear the clam is doing fine

Actually, it is now on a pvc ring. There are thread tissues around the base, so it looks normal.
