Opinions on this RO/DI

i dont know a lot about the ro/di machine i am also looking into them i have been purchasing a lot of stuff from drsfostersmith.com look at some stuff through them everything i have gotten is excellent

airwaterice.com is a rc sponsor that ive recieved great customer service from. Unlike many of the ebay sellers Walter WILL help you get your system running in the unlikely event something is not working on arrival.

I bought that one about a month or so ago. Already made about 100 gallons of water with it, and still reading 000 TDS. But I had them switch the 110 gpd membrane out for a 75 gpd membrane so i would get a better rejection rate.

I think prices are even better on new units from Buckeye feild Supply Company. I do not know that any from them have a TDS meter like the one from filterguys.com

Steer clear of almost all e-bay RO/DI units, they are cheap for a reason and the reason is quality and performance. ANY and I repeat ANY RO/DI unit should give you a 0 TDS reading after DI, but for how long. Cheaper units use lower quality membranes, in some cases they are not even true 98% rejection rate 75 GPD RO membranes but are 90% rejection rate nanofilters not even approved for drinking water quality systems. Most of them don't use true RO filters but use a little hollow clear tube with a little bit of DI resin bobbing around in it, that is not a DI filter. DI filters are a standard 10" canister with a refillable cartridge inside that holds a full 24 oz of DI resin.
Please do your homework and don't get caught up in the 0 TDS argument. Ask them to tell you who makes the membrane, is it a 75 GPD Dow Filmtec, is it ANSI/NSF approved for drinking water and not pool and spa use, does it have a 24oz vertical DI, does it have a 1.0 or better yet 0.5 micron carbon block and no granular carbon, I can list dozens of things that make up a high quality RO/DI system.

You will spend a minimum of $149 for a good reef quality system, $199 to $250 for a little bit better one with a good TDS meter and pressure gauge and probably an autoshutoff valve and $349 for the absolute best unit available today with everything you would ever need and greatly extended filter life.
You have already been given three good choices in AWI, Filter Guys and Buckeye and add www.spectrapure.com to the mix for the MaxCap RO/DI system.

well mine gives me no problems at all and Ive been using it for a year. If I had unlimited funds I would buy the best of course but after a year of 0 TDS still and no problems with my tank I dont think its such a bad deal. BTW when it comes time to replace the membrane I will be using the DOW 75 gpd

Share with everyone your efficiency numbers. Tap water, RO only and RO/DI TDS and how long DI resin lasts you. Normally the efficiency is horrible and DI has a pretty short life or some people don't even own a TDS meter and just assume its working OK based on color change or magic or whatever.
I will start:
My tap water is 782 TDS, my RO only without DI is 5.8 and my RO/DI is way down in the 18 megaohm range which is true semiconductor quality water. The RO rejection rate or efficiency is 99.25% which will never happen with a cheap unit due to inefficient filters and membranes and you will never ever see a DI quality like that, and thats after 435 measured gallons of water through the first DI cartridge and its still going strong.

With RO/DI you really do get what you pay for and it pays to buy the best you can so it will last longer like a fine tool, it will save you money on DI refills since it is more efficient and it will give you better water quality which is what this is all about. Why invest literally thousands of dollars on a reef to put low quality water in it? Water is the single largest ingredient in your tank so make it the best you can.

actually my tank is only 6 gallons so I dont use much so the cheap unit is fine for me, I wish there was a comparison to see how long they last in comparison

There is lots of information out there. It all comes down to filter quality which contributes to RO efficiency and lifespan which in turn leads to DI eficiency and life expectancy. A TDS meter or conductivity meter is the best tool for determining this. The better the filters the better the membrane works and longer its useful life which leads to more effective and longer DI resin life. Its simple mathematics no vodoo or witchcraft involved.

While DesertRat is right in that if you can afford it, get one of the better units. but if you can't afford it, then this unit works just fine. How big is your tank? If its not one of the larger tanks, then this unit wil be perfect for you.
