Opinions on this tank - 150G Corner Flow

Howdy Folks,

I may be able to get my hands on a brand new 150G XH "corner flow pre-drilled" Marineland aquarium. 48"x24"x30"

From what I am told it is factory drilled in left hand corner and comes complete with all required plumbing.
here is some info: http://cdn.spectrumbrands.com/~/med.../Glass Aquariums/CornerFlo Plumbing Tips.ashx

It may come with durso overflow(s) but I am not 100% certain.

Should I have any concerns in regards to the depth or the corner flow?

Does anyone currently use one of these tanks?

Thanks!

I have this size, but I don't know if it's a Marineland tank. You'll see it referred to as a 150 tall or 150T.

I have one. I think the footprint is great as long as you aren't planning on tangs. The depth is a bit of a challenge (measure 30" from your finger tips and you'll see what I mean).

Not even close to planning a stocking list yet.

According to Marineland the plumbing is rated for 700GPH which may prove to be a concern..

Also, I agree at 30" proper aquascaping is a must but I am worried about lighting. I currently have a 6 bulb HO T5 unit...

I'm not a fan of tanks over 27" and if you are short 24". The height make it very difficult to maintain the tank without putting your entire shoulder in the water when you have to work near the bottom of the tank.

I had a 100 gal corner flow tank and would not get another. Not only is it hard to reach to clean but sump room, water flow and swimming room for tangs and other larger fish is very restricted. I now have a 72"x22"x22" which I love.

I have to say I agree with what everyone is saying and have my concerns as well. Nothing is set in stone but I am sad as I was getting a good deal on it, mind you save the money now, spend it later...

I just wanted to stay at 48" length due to my lighting..

Any positive comments on this tank size?

I am torn, I have a few concerns in regards to the depth, and the 700GPH flow rating.

But I am getting a good price, it is 100% brand new, already drilled etc...

What to do? :debi:

I have the 200 DD. Take this advice. I love the tank, but it is an absolute PITA when you want to work in the tank.

And the kicker is that the stands are WAY too short. You bang your head a lot trying to work under the tank. I assume they do this because the tank is already tall.

The overflow is also the reason why i bought the 200DD. This gave me two overflows. One of which i run in full siphon and the other is a durso emergency. I run 2 returns back up to the tank from 2 independent pumps.

So yeah..the tank is nice, and im not replacing it any time soon. BUT, if i did it again. I would not run DD anything. I would probably run 6'x30"x27", coast 2 coast overflow, with a nice tall stand. I also would not run these corner overflows. They are BIG and look ugly from the side. They also have the teeth cuts too close together. So if you want good flow, you need to drill them.

My 2c

I have very long arms and i have had to wear goggles at times to reach the back of the tank!

I'm not a fan of tanks over 27" and if you are short 24". The height make it very difficult to maintain the tank without putting your entire shoulder in the water when you have to work near the bottom of the tank.

Good advise.

Well I should clarify that I would make my own stand and allow proper room for sump/skimmer etc.

I have "tall" tanks before and will I agree they are a pain, I have learned over the years to be prpared. I have all the tool already for "tall" tanks.

Luckily I don't have to make a desicion right away i actually have until June, so I'll keep digging to get feedback etc..

Thanks again !!

I absolutely LOVE my 300 DD. I can't complain. I personally think that the 700GPH drain is a non issue. My 300 has the same overflows, just 2 of them, and I have had no problems. I prefer low flow through the sump. I just supply lots of flow in the DT using wave makers. They will keep things in suspension until it gets removed to the sump.

If height is a concern you could always use a DSB. Instead of 2-3", use 5-6", effectively raising everything a few inches closer to the surface. This is also useful if you are going to have some wrasses or sand burrowing critters.

If the price is right, and you like the footprint, I say do it. Ultimately, only you can decide if it is right for you. I for one can't see getting anything with lass than 36" depth, LOVE the deep dimensions and aquascaping possibilities it provides.

Thanks!

Size is right and I have all the tools to handle "deep" tanks.

So I pulled the pin and bought it will start building the stand etc in the next few weeks.

Thanks for all the advise

I have the marineland 110 tall which is the same tank except mine is 18 wide instead of 24. The 30 inch height makes the tank look a lot bigger than it really is which is kinda cool, imo. I have no complaints except I wish I would've had room in my house for the 150 or 220xh. It comes with all the durso piping, bulkheads, and locline nozzles. I took out the siphon break on the return pipe and put the nozzles near the waterline, so it's almost dead silent. If you are worried about the 700 gph rating, I only run mine around 500 or so and it's more than adequate.
