Optical sensor not triggering pump

Roger,
I have a 5017 that is two or three years old that the optical sensor is not triggering the top up pump to come on. I can unplug and plug back in and it will run for a few seconds but then it stops. This started when I dropped the plug on the power supply in the top up container. I dried it out for a couple of days and hooked it back up. The float switch seems to be working well and the green light on the unit stays on like the water level is normal even when low. Any ideas?
thanks, Chris

The two are probably not related, typically any water damage causes the water damage signal of too high on solid, too low flashing. I would first try soaking the optic sensor in vinegar for a few hours and wiping it with a soft towel. A mineral haze will blind it resulting in a perpetual "level" indication.

Thanks for the response Roger. The sensor looks crystal clear but will soak overnight in vinegar and report back :)

Soaked the sensor overnight in vinegar and wiped well and unit still has green light with water level below sensor.

Generally we install them here, the sensor has to be soldered in and sometimes a calibration of the board is required to the new sensor so we like to verify everything is correct. The sensor is $28.80 and we do not charge to install or calibrate it.

If you send it in, just include a note with return address and phone number. I would only need the controller with attached sensors.
