The are purchased from Aquarists.

Funny because there is one guy from Norway on this board that posted a pic of hawkins echinata and was asking for an id. Said he got it from an aquarists in Germany.....which is where the Hawkins came from apparently. He OP had no idea about ORA hawkins.

Aren't all corals in the hobby harvested from the Pacific? Why the claim they came from Europe? There's no coral reef in Europe where corals from this hobby came from.

The comment was made that ORA may have received a specific coral from Europe. Not from oceans in Europe, but from a hobbyist/coral keeper, in Europe.

Did you read what I wrote...no one is claiming they come from a coral reef in Europe. Some of the ORA corals come from aquarists from Europe. As in they have them in their tank and grow them and some how ORA aquires them at that point.

I used to get requests to sell frags and Stichodactyla tapetum to interested parties in Europe.

I never bothered because of the red tape involved.

Just like korallen-zucht does from the guy in coral magazine this month. Awsome tank btw, one of the nicest systems I've ever seen. They purchase frags from him and he uses all of thier products. Wouldn't doubt it if some of ora corals came from them.

ORA acquires pieces in many different ways, not all of their pieces come directly from the wild. and no, hawkins did not come from an ocean in Europe, just like a lot of their pieces they look to different markets for coral. Europe gets a lot of pieces we rarely see in the us.
