ORA paired clowns

Dear Drs. F&S:

I notice you guys routinely have paired "retired" ORA clowns of various species available through Diver's Den.

My question is this: how old are these guys? Are they "retired" as in ready for the great beyond, or or they just tired Baby Boomers! LOL.

Thanks alot.

Kevin

Khill444444,

Thank you for your post. The term “retired” in this sense does not indicate a particular age, but rather refers to these being former breeding pairs used at ORA for producing tank-bred Clownfish. At this time we are unsure of the normal age at which these pairs are considered retired. We will be checking with our Aquaculture Facility on Monday to provide this information. We appreciate your patience with this process.

Kevin,

All of the ORA retired breeding pairs that we are offering in the Diver's Den® section of the site have slowed down in production for them in the last few years. That doesn’t mean they have stopped breeding, but just don’t meet their quota for productivity.

The ORA Paris are generally wild caught fish, but some males in these pairs may be captive bred. They all vary in age, but I can say that they have been in captivity for quite some time, as most of them are very large adults. These fish have proven themselves to be very hardy and eat anything from pellets, flake, mysis, to brine shrimp.

Happy Reefing!
