ORA Red Planet in trouble

Hi,

Had this guy for a while, when I did some rockscaping he ended up near the top. Soon after I increased my MH photoperiod from 6 to 9 hours a day then bleaching began and it started to look like this:

Since, I have cut the halides entirely for the past three days, leaving my t5 to run for 12 hours a day.

Should I wait for the coral to completely "heal" from the burn before I put the halides back on or should I just start them now but with a shortened photoperied say 4 hours?

If that is algae on it already then it may already be too late.

Yay!, still has living portion. Hopw you fix the problem. I would start with water parameters.

Drop It lower in your tank. If your light is to strong, just shortening the photo period might not be enough. My red planet is practically bullet proof, but it is very light sensitive.

RP are very Hardy. Lower it for a few weeks - months it will come back. I run DE 14k for 6 hours a day (supplemental for 10). My RP is about 18" or so away from the light. GL

PS. You need to get your Algae issue in check. Their may be a little more to the problem than lighting.:thumbsup:

I had no algae/diatoms until I added far too much greenwater (phytoplankton water) to the tank which gave me an algae explosion.

Other wise I am running gfo biodenitrator and gac.

Cool, sounds like you just need to lower it then. I had the same problem when I first got my RP. Fellow Reefer suggested the same (to lower) and it helped a ton. Will post pictures of before and after if that's ok?
