ORA Seahorses

A local fish store has ORA seahorses for $160 a pair. They are Kuda and tank raised.
Any thoughts here good / bad?

sounds reasonable, I paid 150 EACH for my captive bred Raidis

It is not the price I was questioning. I am reading online that captive breed and tank raised are not the same. TR can still have parasites and am wondering if ORA treats them. I didn't where on the site and I am not a wholesaler. Meanwhile I have asked the LFS this question and am waiting a reply.

"A lot of people use these terms to describe one another. You are right they are completely different. Rest assured our seahorses are tank bred and raised. If you have any more questions please let me know."

It depends on whether or not you're after kuda. If you're looking for something else, or think you'll be wanting to rear the fry, I'd go with Southern erectus, as the fry are much easier to raise.

I am looking at Kuda or H. Ingens. Not much info on the latter. Any thoughts about them?

Ingens is a large (up to 12" or so in the wild) temperate species (max temp 68*F) that can be pretty touchy sometimes. They give birth to up to 2000 tiny pelagic fry that are pretty tough to rear. In fact, I only know of one HOBBYIST who was only able to get one SH to adulthood out of all the broods she tried.

They pretty much ALWAYS die if you try mixing them with other species.

....at least their overview is accurate when they say challenging and describle the relationship between the bacteria and temprature. They are just telling you up-front what you are getting into. And it is cool of them to do that....that is Honesty....

Someone we know pretty well in the SH industry gave us the low-down on Southwatch. The company is a couple of years old, and was funded by a doctor as a "pet project" among other investments.

They've had at least two personnel changes trying to crack the production/quality nut. Altho they have supplied SH to a few LFS in FL, the output was low as was the reported quality of their stock (so much for their target of 1000 erectus/week to the hobby). They MAY have had another personnel change, but it's only speculation, and the poster in question just may be an employee.

It's kinda funny because this reminds me of how some peeps who are just getting into SH are already counting all the money they plan to make raising and selling SH before they even set up a tank. Some peeps have NO clue as to how tuff it is.

Still...REGULAR SH???? Another SH owner I know wondered if that means that the SH in question don't require laxatives...

Southwatch may eventually end up as a good supplier, but it seems like they need a lot more work.
