Orange Coraline?

Didn't know if i was seeing things correctly but it seems as though i have fluorescent orange Coraline algae growth on a few of my rocks. Its the coolest thing lol.

I have seen some of my coralline appear orange under actinic or moonlight but not in plain daylight. Not saying you are wrong because I really have no idea if it comes in an orange variety but are you sure that you are not seeing sponge or tunicate growth?Just spitballing.

That is a score then. Consider yourself lucky and see if you can share some of it with friends. I am sure others would like to see it as well. Have a good night.

I too occasionally get a small fl orange coraline growth but only apparent under actinic and only lasts a day or two. I was chalking it up as temp condition either at the beginning of the life cycle, or just before die off. It never lasts in my tank.

i searched around online and others say its a cycle and color morph of coraline and it will eventually turn purple. hmm

i noticed some glowing orange coralline under my blue LEDs a few days ago also.. but i think they are fading already.. same with the pink coralline i had on some LR i picked up... now everything is just turning purple and red.. mixed with some green algae.

I see it under actinics sometimes after a water change in areas that were above the water line during the water change. It always goes away right away. I always figured it was coraline that died after exposure to air.

I get small, "quarter size" patches here and there, but they go away quick. Shows up under 10K as well as actinics, but is not as pronounced. Edit: preef, the two patched I see now are at the bottom of the tank, in a somewhat shaded area, so in my case anyway, it has nothing to do with exposure to air. Also, I know there is a toxic orange coraline algae, but I don't think this is that.

Whoops, sorry, my mistake, I just looked it up. The toxic corraline I was referring to is not a type of algae, but a bacterial infection that turns the corraline orange. Called Corraline Lethal Orange Disease (CLOD). Sorry, been a while since I thought about such things... I don't think it's it though, unless it spreads and kills of your corraline.

I get the exact same thing whenever I lift up some epoxy holding a frag in place. I wonder if it is a reaction between the corraline and the epoxy?

i think that type likes no light, i have found it when i pulled rocks that have been buried under the sand. it will only stay alive for a day when exposed to light.

I broke apart a normal purple Coraline covered rock and inside in the tubes and cracks where it did not get much or any light it was all Orange Coraline.

I have had the orange show up right after I pulled some hair algae out by hand, usually within 24 hours, but it never lasts more than a day or two. It's unfortunate, it's very pretty!

I get it whenever I spill Joe's Juice on dark red/burgundy coraline. I always assumed it was just a cycle it went through, as it never lasts long.

I was curious about this because I tend to always have green and blue in my tank and Orange would be an awesome add to the tank.

From what I could find, there is orange corline, but its dull looking. The highly fluorescent orange is (or seems to come from) the death(or rapid adjustment to change) of pink algae and seems to be a temporary thing.

One of the better links and pics I found was this

hope that helps :D

blue would be cool...i bought some rock from my LFS with a few small patchs of yellow on it a few weeks ago hopefully it spreads
