Orange Linkia eats sponge

I have seen my orange linkia eat my pink sponge. The star will be on top of the sponge. After the star leaves the sponge is faded. The sponge seems to be getting smaller in the spots I see the star. So I was thinking that if I keep some sponge in my tank the star should live fairly long. Any input.....
