It is all about aclimating those stars. Linkia and Fromia. You could take two hours acclimating them but if the guy before you rushed things they are already dead before they ship it out. Only you do not know it. I kept some of them while I had the shop. But most perished. I just stayed away from stars with the exception of Brittle and Serpents. Always had much better success rates. They are the only ones I will keep in my tanks now.
I've had an orange linkia for over a yr now... he just eats stuff on the bottom of the tank from what I can tell.
When I got him..I made sure the LFS had him for about two weeks before buying him...to make sure he wasn't a gonner just from being shipped to them.
Then I took a shot glass...and added half a shot of tank water to his bag ever 5 minutes for about an hr...and then put him in the tank...he was fine.
I've also done this with serpent stars.... I give my serpent starfish a half a silverside once a week (well the one I always see I feed a silverside..two of them barely ever come out of the liverock..so I assume they are eating fish food that goes in there.... and when I put mysis in the tank..they stick their legs out for some.)
I usually get two years out of a star and then whatever happens. All my linkias got a wound and my cleaner shrimp seem to feel that means fresh food for them. Now that I am in a larger tank I will rearrange the rock work less so maybe the star won't get wounded this time.
