I was lucky enough and bought mine when it was already eating small shrimp. I read alot about them if they wont eat you have to acclimate them with an acro i believe it is.
Do you have any idea how to care for this fish? In general, better to ask some questions before acquiring the fish. Do you know about their feeding and food training requirements?
Seek out fast growing brown ones. They can be trained to eat other foods, but in order to do so, they need to be eating. And acros are their food, so start there.
"a bit of a challenge" may be a bit of an understatement. These fish shouldn't be attempted by any other than the most experienced hobbyists. The vast majority never adapt to a captive diet. I'd suggest you return the fish, if you can, and research fish before you buy. Don't count on the LFS; a good dealer would have told you about this fish's needs before you bought it. Here's some info on the fish and it includes a good link to a more comprehensive article. Not picking on you, many of us have been in the same place. But, I think many folks leave this hobby because they fail to do the necessary homework an keep losing fish, this is a great hobby/addiction; but requires homework and patience. Avoid impulse buys at all costs. (http://www.bluezooaquatics.com/productDetail.asp?did=1&pid=2820&cid=282)
