Orange Spotted Filefish and Tridnacnids

I had three seemingly healthy clams, two derasas and a maxima. The maxima was in my tank for four months, one derasa a month, and the other three weeks. Within days of adding the OSFF (three weeks ago), the maxima wasn't looking too good, and I lost him yesterday. Now I just found one of the derasas dead. They other hasn't been open as much but still looks mostly well. The OSFF certainly is very nippy "“ he nips at most all my SPS and occasionally some gorgonians. I did notice him nip near the maxima once a few days ago (only time), but I don't know if it was something on the shell or the mantle. Has anyone else had compatibility issues with clams and OSFF?

Can't help you with your question, but am curious as to what does the OSFF eat? Mysis or pellets?

Hi they can nip at corals and clams as this is what they do.
I have osff in my tank but she only eats meaty food and dry food at the moment.
The best way I have found to stop it from eating your corals and clams is to put a lance fish on a seaweed clip and let it sit on the bottom of your tank in the morning,it will then have all day to graze on it while your at work and you won’t have to worry about it losing weight.

I feed my fish flake in the morning with the flow off for 10-15mins and add the lance fish at the same time.
By the evening the flow goes off and in goes the Mysis and brineshrimp and maybe more flake if they are still hungry. This works for me at the moment.
Good luck with your osff.

we're bumping all the old OSFF threads. ;)

no, they don't bother clams. they don't bother most coral either. mine like to nibble at my acropora, but they don't really do any damage. i have no polyp extension, but growth has not been negatively impacted in any way.

they do like meaty foods, live foods, nori, and a wide variety of other foods.

I dont think they will nip clams, at least to an extend enough to kill it. And if it did(as every fish is different), I would be more nervous for the safety of the OSFF. Clams are notorious for suddenly closing and smashing the nipping fish.
