Orange Spotted Goby

Hi there! I have a question concerning my Goby. I've had him in my tank since the first week of April, and he seems content enough in his cave and occasionally comes out into the open. However, he doesn't appear to eat? I also have a clown and royal gramma and they eat micro pellets and whatever isn't eaten, sinks, but I have yet to see my goby eat anything.. So I'm curious as to how he's still alive honestly.. Should I try target feeding him? Or is it common for gobies to be sneaky eaters? Also, he doesn't sift my sand and I read that his type was a sifter, so is that a concern too? Thanks

yours sounds very much like mine. i've had mine for around 4 years and while i do see him out and about, i rarely see him actually eat. if you're feeding sinking pellets, you can bet he's getting some.

i don't see my goby doing much sand sifting either.

Mine is the one in the top photo of that link.

So should I supplement his diet? Or is he getting enough off the bottom? Should I just let him keep doing his thing and not worry about it?

If you can, keep an eye on his stomach to make sure it is 'full' looking and that it is not shrunken. I do try to target feed but can take a while for the goby to figure out that the pipette brings food.

They are usually good eaters but can be shy around people at first before they are completely acclimated so I"d try moving away from the tank after you put the food in. Another possible issue is aggressive tankmates making the goby uncomfortable.
