Mine is the most active fish in the tank, eats nori, pellets, and frozen food. Mine enjoys ripping the nori off the sheet, but then barely eats any, letting it float away...what a pain Mine seems to be very hardy as well. He easily survived an ich breakout which never even slowed him down.
I got mine when he was tiny, maybe 1.5 inches from LiveAquaria Divers Den. Back then, he didn't have an orange shoulder, just a tiny speck where the orange should be, haha. Just in the last 5 months, he's completely changed, but still has a yellow tint to him.
under rated sounds correct! Ive had one for about a year now and I can honestly say he uses every bit of my 500 glln and is a constant algea grazer. I couldnt be any happier with this guy..
I love the orange shoulder, when I ordered it my LFS said "why would you want that ugly fish?", probably because it was one of the cheaper tangs he could get in and would have much rather me order a purple or sohal tang.
It's unlikely there'll be problems between the orange shoulder and naso. They are from different families and look completely different. Naso tangs are actually quite peaceful and rarely have problems with other fish.
Of course, this is assuming you have a properly sized tank.
btkrausen, I didn't know they started off yellow and become darker with time. Kind of like a mimic lemonpeel tang. It seems like yours darkened in a relatively short time too!
Yeah, I was surprised by the quick transformation, but I'm ok with it, cause I really want it in adult colors, haha. He was so tiny when I got him and is now the second largest fish in my tank, and at this growth, he might take over my Blueface angel in 6 months, haha.
This guy eats like there is no tomorrow, and is pretty thick from side to side.
Here he is when I first got him...these aren't huge rocks either, haha.
i've had mine for 4 years and 3 months. when i purchased him from the lfs, he was the typical 2 shades of grey but switched to yellow after about 2 weeks in my old 300. just over the last 4 months, he's sorta changing colors again in the new tank.
My orange shoulder won't change colors! I got him when he was about 2.5" and bright yellow and now, over 3 years later, he's about 6" and still bright yellow! No hint of changing colors at all! Not that I mind. He's one of my favorite fish. He's been in a tank with a tenneti and they were fine together. He's now in a 125 with an achilles and they are buddies. Think he will ever change colors????
About a year ago when he was in my 150. He looks the same today.
