orca meeting livestock auction

I was wondering why orca doesnt have a livestock auction at any of its meetings? I think it would be a good idea even if it wasnt a monthly thing but like every 3 months -just wasnt sure if there was a reason behind it.

I assume you mean fish? How would they do that unless someone donated it to them? It would be difficult and I doubt many stores would donate that many fish to make it worthwhile. With corals, it is easier since it grows continuous.

We have had some livestock here and there. A month or so ago there were several clownfish that went for auction. There are some fish in my reef that I'm not that fond of... however, I'm not willing to destroy the reef to get them out. Coral frags, on the other hand, are easy to "catch."

I wasnt really talking about people donating them-i wouldnt expect that at all,

i was meaning more of fish that people are getting tired of -it would be an easy way to get rid of them and help orca make some money.

i wasnt sure if it was allowed at all b/c i had heard that it was coral only (hence the name coral frag) so i was just raising the question.

That would probably work and I don't see why you couldn't bring a fish for auction. Is there any rules against that? Only downside is it will be stuck in a bag for most of the evening. But shouldn't be a big deal if done correctly.

I'd like to hear some clarification indeed but if it were me bringing a fish to auction i'd get\borrow\steal one of those buckets with a bubbler and have them in that so they aren't stuck in a bag for a long time- Fish make it shipped all the time when packed well but no more than an hour or two drive home with a bubbler would probably be less stressful for as long as the meetings can take (of course this newb has only been to one but it is an idea if anyone is thinking about doing this- and if its allowed)

:)

I have fish shipped to me all the time. Use enough water and six hours in a bag should not be horribly stressful on the fish. Use judgment on what you bring(don't bring a "reef-safe" angler in an 8 ounce bag of water) and the fish should have no problem surviving(my philosophy: if it doesn't survive a quick and safe transport, it probably wouldn't survive at all).

There is no rule against bringing inverts and fish and anyone is welcome to do so. If you are bringing a fish, you should give the curtousey of explaining why you don't want it anymore, i.e. it outgrew my tank, chased this fish, brought ich into the system(J/K)...being honest is important when someone else is trusting you to be auctioning a good product. Maybe also mention minimum tank requirements, tank size, feeding patterns, what you've fed, how long he's been in your tank.
