Orchid Dottybacks hatching

Is the father ( I assume he tends the eggs?) required for the hatching of the orchid dottyback eggs?

I have a friend who has orchids in their tank. they breed and I would like to try to raise the kids. I am guessing I have to collect the live young rather than the eggs as in clowns?
Thanks
Nathan

He really tends the eggs just leaves to eat.

as with clownfish eggs in eggs out it does not matter whatever is easier for you.

You can hatch them in a hatching jar or a makeshift kreisel like this:

Actually that one was just the prototype, I made it out of a tupperware bowl :D The one I use now is made from a 6" section of 8" pvc. A sheet of acrylic covers the front and some fine mesh covers the back. A 4" hole in the top for access and an airline at one side to create the circular motion. It's just an improvement of the "fishbowl" kreisels I used for seahorse fry. Sorry I don't have a better pic. BTW these are frogfish eggs that never hatched:

LOL Manuel,

Yes the male tends and it always bigger than the female.Pay attention to them, by the time the spawn is ready to hatch the female is gravid already.

You can hatch them in a soda bottle or brine shrimp hatcher if thats easier for you.

David,

thanks ! One more question: I assume the egg mass can get contact with the air bubble - any negativ effects of that? Or did you finetune the air flow so that the egg is just hovering?

You have to fiddle with the air to get it just right, it does not seem to matter if the eggmass occasionally gets blasted by the air.
