Ordered a second skimmer today!

And here I thought getting the tanks (finally) up and running would end your skimmer swapping:D

Not swapping yet, my plan is to run two skimmers unless this one just blows the NW out of the water. Half the fun of reef tanks is trying different pieces of equipment!

I do plan to cut my cube tank lighting to 4 250w bulbs next bulb change. The XM 10K 250w bulbs have more PPFD than my Ushio 400w bulbs.

Dave, what ballasts are you going to run the XMs on?

SLS 250w HQI duals.

You ordered a skimmer, but who ordered the Griss ?

It remains a mystery, a quandry, as to the comings and goings of the now infamous and rather elusive Griss

It is kind of like an Icepick sighting but rarer.

Sniff, my young padawan has caught on fast!!

I am not sure on how long it will take to get the skimmer. I am most likely going to have to wait a couple months to save up for it....hopefully in November sometime.

Yeah, it is pretty efficient and quiet. Only 272 watts!

272 watts will be more efficient than the Geo? I thought all the Geo used was one small feed pump and a Lita air pump?

My NW has a DART BALDOR pump, alita 40 air pump and Iwaki 40 RLT feed pump. Add that all up and it is about 300+ watts.

Oh....

Goodness. At least that Dart is the Baldor equipped model, or the power consumption would be even higher, right?

So, with this DD style skimmer, the only thing you will need to run it is the Hammerhead pump?

The Baldor Dart uses about 160 watts, the Iwaki uses about 150 watts and the Alita uses 50 watts. I don't know if there is a difference in electrical consumption between the cheap AO Smith motor I had and the much beefier and quieter Baldor motor.

The quad beckett injected skimmer is a straight through shot water processing machine...big pump feeding lots of gph and lots of air for quick removal of DOCs. Only need one pump on a beckett unless it is a recirc model which this one is not....I already have a slow, recirc long contact model in the NW. That is the advantage of having two types of skimmers, they both extract junk in different ways.

I was under the impression that with two skimmers one will always over power the other. Meaning they will swip swap on the efficiency.

This is only partially true. Each skimmer will do its respective job, but one may do it better than the other. There are many reefers who run multiple duplicate skimmers...while I will be one of them, I will have the best of both worlds with a slow, long contact recirculating NW and a quick, run it through fast and hard beckett.

Having owned both types, I think the becketts take stuff out in larger amounts and quicker. It will be interesting to compare the quad beckett with the NW once it arrives.

ETA on new skimmer?

Probably November sometime...I am saving up for it first.

It might happen sooner, but I am planning on November to be conservative. I am really looking forward to having another toy to play with.
