Ordered The Package

Love the flame scallop! I also like the rockscaping. Is the tank a biocube 24? If so, what are you using for filtration? I have a 14g biocube and I've got purigen next to the intake pump, chaeto in the middle chamber for a refugium, and the stock filter in the other compartment, but I'm considering something else there as well. :)

I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to keep the Flame Scallop, after doing some research it appears that it will be difficult to keep.

This is my current setup:

1 BioCube 29 Gal
1 BioCube Stand
1 Rio 6hf (hyper flow)
1 Ehim Jager heater 100 watt
1 section of Loc-line 1/2"
1/2" to the return and split it with a Y fitting.
1/4" flare nozzle
1 Fuge light (3.1 Nanocustoms Refugium Light)
1 Typhoon 3 RO/DI unit

CHAMBER 1
Removed false bottom
Removed Stock Filter
Ehim Jager heater 100watt
Widened gap into chamber 2

CHAMBER 2
Converted into a Fuge (scraped the paint and used velcro to attach the light)
Cheato
Filter Floss
Modded the drip tray by using a dremmel to remove about 3" of plastic so the filter floss sits level and not above.

From bottom up in Chamber 2
False Floor
Cheato
Drip Tray
Filter Floss

Chamber 3
Rio 6hf (hyper flow)
eheim 16/22 hose
Removed sponge

I'll add Purigen and ChemiPuire Elite soon in chamber 1 or 2 in a couple weeks.

Very cool.

So far for me (more details):
Chamber 1 - stock filter, no heater due to living in FL...will add one before winter, will add new protein skimmer there once the *&$! thing arrives!
Chamber 2 - Removed top drip tray and bioballs, left bottom tray, added chaeto ball...will add underwater LED's for lighting
Chamber 3 - purigen where sponge was, replaced stock pump with mj1200

I'm planning on adding loc-line to the tank to split the flow from my mj1200 into 2 flows and then add a koralia to the other side. :)

Divemonster - I think small tanks do need some more accessories, simply because we don't have as much water to disperse bad things through. Still, they are fun to tinker with!

I have a quick question. You have a 29 gallon Biocube but you only ordered a 22 gallon "package". Was there a strategy for this or did you want to limit your rock to allow more water volume?

Thanks
Allen

I think you can get some critters (don't remember if it was a fish or crab) that will eat caulerpa. Perhaps you could get something that will "trim" it for you?

I ended up with buying the 23 gallon package. When I initially filled the tank without filling the back chambers it came to around 23 gallons. I bet the 29 gallons includes the back chambers being filled but I’m not sure.

Most sites I’ve seen recommend 1-1/2 lbs per gallon. Richard figures it at 2 lbs per gallon â€"œ so a 29 gal package would have been 58 lbs (from my research most people with a cube have between 35 -40 lbs). I think I have too much rock currently and may end up pulling one, but I’m not sure yet because all the rocks have so much life on them.

The second part of the package has been in my tank since Monday. Ammonia still holding at .25

Now I need to figure out what's next... Looks like I will need food for all my new little buddies next week.

I need to feed my invertebrate, Serpent star, lobster, peppermint shrimp, flame scallop and that huge Red Mithrax Crab

from time to time I buy raw shrimp and run them thru a food processor while frozen with the slice blade.

chops them up pretty good and then I get a bunch of small ziploc bags the ones that are too small for sandwiches.

I put a small amount in each bag and get the air out and then flatten the bag.

I wind up with frozen choped shrimp I can break of a small bit and feed the tank with.

just a few last a long time... but the food processor has to be cleaned up right away as it gets smelly :D

I'm going to my first reef club meeting this weekend and luckily, the topic is "making your own fish/coral food." :D

take lots of notes! and then share :D

the ammonia in our tank has been holding at .25 ppm for 2 days now and soon i'll turn my attention to feeding everyone as well.

I like the shrimp idea, I cuold vacuumm seal them.

I was also thinking of buying this:
Micro-Vert

Yeah that would help keep from frezzerburn.

just make them thin / flat so you can break it up in small bits.

I cut up shrimp, scallops, even clam and freeze. I use Micro-Vert on ocassion in my Pico it's good stuff.

in your tank? It's not unusual to find critters several months down the road :D

4 inches! wow, that's a big mantis. Is your rock TBS?

yep the rock is TBS. The Manits shrimp comes out all the time now. He seems to be eating my barnacles one by one.

How much damage can the shrimp and gorilla craps do to the rock? I have about 10 crabs on my rock with the plan to start trapping them tonight. Some of the crabs just appear to be picking at the rock.

Last night I decided I would try to catch some the crabs in my tank. I have about 10 ranging from the size of an eraser head to a quarter. I'm just thinking that all crabs are bad crabs at this point.
Not sure if there doing anything bad or not, they pretty much sit in their holes or pick stuff of the rock.

I took a long tall shot glass (about 5") and a small piece of raw shrimp and put it in my tank tilited on a rock near the crabs.

With in 3 minutes, my serpant star had a leg in the glass reaching for it, the peppermint shrimp was in the glass along with a herd of about 10 hermit crabs making a bee-line for it with a couple in the glass and my red mithrix crab was on top of the glass trying to get it.

Needless to say the bad crabs and mantis shrimp didn't even move. After I feed everyone that wanted the shrimp I put another piece in the glass and it sat there for 20 minutes and nobody was interested... the crabs kept moving around picking at my rock.
