Well they are the exact same species :)

I don't claim to be an ID guru and I'm certainly not going to be bleaching a frag of my Oregon tort to try to ID it... but others have mentioned, and I tend to agree, that the Oregon tort is most likely not A. tortuosa.

mine is but a pup... i also have a really large cali tort and they are very much different. i never really thought this with online pics, but in person you can see it (as far as color goes). Structurally, you can see it as they mature.

They are not the same. I agree, the Oregon tort is most likely not even a tort. The distinguishing factor between a Cali and an Oregon tort is the non-presence of green. The Cali tort will have some shade of green in the corallites. The Oregon tort has no green.

These two were sold to me as a 1" "Oregon tort" frags by two RC members about 9 months ago. Growth has been incredible but they're not the bright blue color I've associated with the other Oregon torts I've seen pics of. They look more like an ORA at times but less green tint and the blue is a little brighter. I hope I didn't spend $60 for 1" ORA torts :(

This was sold to me as a Cali tort. Its a true blue throughout and has very good growth.

This is the ORA tort. This has grown from a 1/2" piece in the last 8 months. (bottom left of pic)

Let me know what you think they are.

Did someone say that Steve Weast lost his large tort colony? Did he lose any other large mature colonies?

Nope, I just mentioned that the pics of his colonies are no longer in the other thread.:) Very nice torts, BTW.;)

son, pics look great...you dont have issues with the RBTA killing your SPS's? my GBTA killed any SPS it touched!
Just curious!!

Not too sure if this is an Oregon or not...yet it has the nice color!

I have to agree with Maximus. True Oregon Torts won't have any green hue on them.

Could you guys tell me how much the polyps of your Oregons extend during the day?

Interesting ... has anyone offered any guesses as to what it might be?

Polyp extension on my Oregon tort colonies are good. It's nowhere like a mille, but you can definitely see polyp extension 24/7 on my colonies.

So the "Oregon Tort" isn't a tort... *sigh* this hobby can get so frustrating at time. I'll have to take a picture of my tort (was told by experienced reefer it was a Cali) but I don't notice any green on it.

I agree with Maximus, my Oregon Tort has polyp extension pretty much all day. Although I'm not sure exactly what mine is. The main colony that is located near the top of the tank is solid blue, no green at all. A frag of the same coral seems to have some greenish highlights towards the bottom of the coral; and the only difference is that it is located near the bottom of the tank.
