Oregon Tort Placement

I have a 1" frag of Oregon Tort under 6 T5s and am wondering where the best place is to keep it. I have had it about half way down in a 75 for about 2 months and it has based out a little and the polyps were out originally but now the very top tip is getting a white coloration, still looks like flesh just not blue, and the polyps haven't come out in a while.

Should I move it higher or lower in the tank?

Every other SPS looks great, good color and lots of polyp extension so I wanted to ask about this one specific to location.

+1 High light. I have mine right next to my MP10, so pretty good flow as well. I had only polyp extension at night when I first got my frag. Very slow growth. I think it took a long time to acclimate, and then all of the sudden in the last month or so, it started encrusting and little branching nubs started coming out as well as polyp extension in the day. Here is a pic of it then and now (sorry for bad iphone pics). Good luck.

Agreed with more light. Mine's only under 6 t5's but about 4 inches from the surface. Polyp extension is good and color is fair. It had the BEST coloration when I had the frag under the coral-bleaching ecoray leds before I got rid of them and changed to T5's. Mine doesn't seem to care about high flow as much.

This was months ago when it was under the coral-bleaching ecoray LEDS, loving it. (redbugs attacked it in the interim and there has been little growth in height)

3 inchces down under 250 14k MH near the bulb with brisk flow for my 4 incher. Took abut 3 years to get that size though. Slow glower, ime.

I agree, I have a large colony of Oregon sitting directly under a 400W 10K mogal just below the water line with tons of flow. It does well and is thriving. Even as I have transitioned it to more intense lighting over time, it may have lost a little color, but always returned more intense.

Woke up this morning and looked at my tank and the Oregon Tort before leaving for work and noticed a small die off spot on the base of the tort. Didn't have time to do anything about it before work so hoping it is still ok when I get home.

Not having enough light wouldn't cause it to die off would it? Everything else in the tank is doing well.

Are torts more sensitive than other corals? I have a mix of SPS, milles, lokani, pink lemonade, strawberry shortcake, purple monster, etc. They all seem ok.

torts are sensitive. could it be pests? you could test alk, calc, mag, po4, sg and that would give us a better idea of whats going on. Just because only 1 corals show stress doesnt mean that the others arent stressed in waywhat. the other corals may not be as sensitive, more healthy or just be more accustom to the surroundings. the tort could be acting as a water quality gauge because its so new and young.

BTW I have my OT at 12" down on my LR under 8x24w T5s...very nice color and PE. I will say that they do love light and I could move it up. The more saturated tortt colors come from MH IMO. ALSO, that blue color tort under LEDs looks terrible and unhealthy...its amazing how the PE and growth came back un t5s. could still use a little more light but give it time and it will gett deeper in color.
