Osmolater on timer

Hi,

Is it okay to have the Tunze Osmolater on a timer, so the topoff only runs during a certain part of the day?

Thanks!

There are two problems. The timer could defeat the 10 minute safety if you had it set up this way and you were on vacation- turning off resets the 10 minute clock. The timer may also cause problems supposing you had so much evaporation between on times the 10 minutes was not enough time to catch up.

*bump*

I got my osmolater and think its great, I wish I would have gotten one long before.

Supposing I were to add the calcium dispenser (in a bucket of vinegar water) though, I am worried that the top-off volume is way too fast for my small tank (20L). That is why I want to run it only at night. The current setup (in a bucket of water) seems to only need to run about 15 seconds several times a day to keep up with the water level. Do you think I would still run in to problems if I were to put the Osmo on a timer?

I think the answer is to run a weak kalk solution, imagine that when it firsst kicks on at night it will need to dose a large amount of solution to catch up which would be far worse. The pump is not designed to handle kalk but a weak solution should be OK, be sure the pump is propped up and not sitting in a slurry of powder. I would mix at the rate of 1/2 teaspoon to a gallon.
