Osmolater Problem

The other day I noticed that my sump was not topped off and saw the red light blinking on the top off controller so I manually added water till I saw the green and yellow lights telling me it was close to topped off, then I heard the pump kick on but it only ran for 15 seconds or so and that was it, so I unplugged the unit and tried it again. Same thing. Any suggestions as to what might be the problem?

Thanks
Shawn

Three possibilities:

1) The pump is going bad.
2) The pump is drawing too much power due to a corroded connection or wire that got wet and wicked in some water and corroded inside or a very short hose run, higher head pressure lowers the watt draw.
3) The circuit breaker inside the controller that cuts off the pump in an overload has failed.

Check that the connector isn't corroded, if you know at one point the wires got wet or the soldered ends have an obvious salt crust then i would cut them back. Also make sure the hose is running up to the tank, this is common with short runs to a nearby sump as the pump uses more power with less head pressure.

I had similar issue with my osmolator. I replaced the metering pump and it works good as new.

The original pump lasted 3 yrs which some other people said is about normal. At least the metering pump is fairly inexpensive and available from MD and others. I still love my osmolator.... best purchase for the tank.

reef-doug makes a good point, how old is the Osmolator, I had assumed it was fairly new, less than a year old?

Can you send it in with the pump and power supply?
