Osmolator 3155 problem

Hi Roger or if anybody else can answer please chip in,
I bought a 3155 osmolator for use as my auto top up. It sits in a 5 gal reservoir and is on a timer which has been set to operate overnight (11pm - 8am) for 15 mins every hour. Its connected to a kalk stirrer and the output of the osmolator pump is "controlled" or limited via a small ball valve to allow drips of about 2 a second. The problem is that the controller always reads "too low" and cuts off after 10 mins of pump operation. With it being on a timer eventually the period expires and on the next switch on it works again for 10 mins. The reservoir water level is higher than the input to the kalkstirrer - any ideas on resolving this ? I have the IR sensor below the shut off sensor which is orientated as per instructions.

That is normal, that is the third safety- 10 minute time out. If it doesn't detect a fill in 10 minutes it shuts itself off as the logic is you are out of water or the tank is leaking. It cannot be used the way you have it installed. I would just run it as it was intended, you should still be able to use the kalk dispenser, it doses so little water at a time that it really should not be an issue.

Thanks for the reply Roger, so you're suggesting taking out the ball valve and having the pump connected directly to the kalkstirrer ? I have evap loss of around 5 litres a day but this does increase with the PC fans in the sump and in the summer. I doubt youre recommending having the unit switched on and allow it to dump 5 litres worth of Kalkwasser in one go (for PH reasons alone). So do I get a digital timer and run it for reduced periods (like minutes) every hour ?

If you top off the tank and let the unit run continuously it will add about one cup at a time, the water level only has to drop a mm to signal it to turn on and fill up and then it will shut off. In one day it will add 5L but at any given time it will be adding a very small amount.

Ah ok, so I have to change the timing of the top-up, previously I was adding the kalkwasser overnight when the PH naturally drops and hence trying to avoid a spike by dripping it slowly. If the auto-top up is continually dripping minimal amounts in to maintain the max-fill level or where I have the IR sensor set then this should in theory be fine. Thanks for the response.
