Osmolator Check Valve Problem

The check valve on my osmolator has malfunctioned twice now. Basically, it plugs or sticks, not allowing the pump to move water through the kalkwasser dispenser and out the discharge hose.

I soaked the check valve in vinegar overnight and rinsed. It worked fine for about a week and today it failed again. When I got home, the alarm was going off and the red light flashing... I assume due to the pump running without making any progress filling the sump. I removed the check valve from the line, and all's working well.

Can the unit run without the check valve? I'm guessing all the kalk will empty into my resivour.

Should I order another check valve? ..do I possibly have a defective one?

Thanks for your help,

Paul

Go to any decent aquarium store and look in the section where they sell all the airlines and valves for air stones and air pumps. It's nothing more than an airline check-valve. It's the exact same valve you would use if you kept an air pump in the cabinet below the tank. when the power goes out or you unplug the pump the water will flow back through the airline and into the air pump. The valve stops that. In our case the valve keeps the Kalk water from returning to the RO container.

Be sure the hose is tied above the kalk dispenser, kalk is very corrosive and no check valve will last long with kalk in it. The in feed hose from the pump should be zip tied above the dispenser.
