Osmolator float switch trouble

Hello,

I purchased a used Tunze Osmolator a while back. When I tested it originally, it appeared to work fine.

Now that I am to install it on my sump, I am having trouble with it.

When I turn it on I get a high water alarm and the pump will not operate. To me it appears that the signal from the float switch is reversed. If I raise the float switch midway, the pump will turn on and operate normally. Raised to the top, the pump turns off with no high water alarm. If the float is at the bottom, high water alarm. (and no it is not installed upside down ;) )

Any suggestions? Magnetic interference possibly? I'm going to remove the system and test in another room this weekend.

Thanks in advance.

If you are using the magnet holders, be sure they are lined up and installed properly and the float is in the right mount, i.e. the larger clip. The small outer magnet lines up with the larger inner magnet so the bottoms are in line, the float is a magnetic switch and must have a special position shielded from the magnetic field. I rarely see floats where the magnet inside is broken, but it is worth checking, it should look like a black washer, if it is cracked or a c or just chips, that is a possible cause. The magnet should be at the top of the float and secure so it stays put in that part of the float.

Thanks for the fast reply.

The inner "washer" is broken in two and with one half on top of the other so it looks more like a C. And it's on the bottom if the float.

Is this repairable?

I tried to send a PM but apparently I need 10 posts before it will let me. I guess thats what I get for lots of reading and not asking a lot of questions. Here's to 8.
